Ice Skating in Gold West Country Montana

In winter, a pond or lake in Montana can become an ice skating rink. Anaconda, Butte, Helena and Philipsburg also have ice skating rinks and many are free to the public.

  • Bannack State Park: Ice skating pond and warming house, open from late December to early March. Skates available at no cost. Hot refreshments and gifts available in warming house. Southwest of Dillon.

  • Black Sandy State Park: One of just a few public parks (a day use area) located on Hauser Reservoir. 15 miles northeast of Helena.

  • Butte Community Ice Center: Regulation 85 foot by 200 foot ice rink hosting youth hockey and junior hockey programs. Public skating offered Sundays. Butte.

  • Helena Ice Arena: Indoor 41,000 square-foot facility offering public ice skating, figure skating, men’s and women’s beginner and adult hockey leagues, and youth hockey. Home of the Cascade Cup Champion Helena Bighorns hockey. Helena.

  • Kennedy Commons: A city park in the center of downtown Anaconda, popular for ice skating during the winter. Anaconda.

  • Lewis & Clark Recreation Area: A day use area on Clark Canyon Reservoir. 20 miles south of Dillon.

  • Winninghoff Park Ice Rink: Picturesque NHL-sized outdoor ice skating rink located in Philipsburg’s National Historic District. Warming house, lighted for night skating. Philipsburg.
