Discovered in 1868 the Vipond brothers built a road to Dewey in 1872 to transport the rich silver ore. The Quartz Hill mining camp can be reached via the Quartz Hill Road about 1 mile northwest of Dewey. Numerous old buildings and mining sites are found in the area.
