Copper King Express
Ride the rails of the historic Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway. Incorporated in 1892, the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railroad operated between the mining and smelting communities of Butte and Anaconda, Montana. The B.A.&P. was the vital transportation link between the two thriving cities. In 1985, in conjunction with the closure of the smelter, the railroad was privatized and become Rarus Railway Company. Rarus has continued to provide freight services to the area in addition to preserving historic structures, such as the 20 stall roundhouse built in the early 1900s. Then in 2004, Rarus Railway Company, purchased some passenger cars and created the Copper King Express. With the creation of the excursion train, passenger trains would once again operate over the former B.A.&P. line. It had been 50 years since the last regular passenger train service operated on the line.
Wood wainscoting on the walls! Red Crushed Velvet! New Carpets! Copper Ceilings! Beautiful Ceiling Light Fans! Gone are the green school bus like seats! You will now find restaurant type seating in either a booth or at a counter like booth. Every seat provides a relaxed setting with a table to hold your drinks or food. Air conditioning will ensure a comfortable ride on even the hottest days of the year!
Copper King Express will offer special event rail rides. Theater Trains will feature live theatre entertainment at the grand Washoe Theater. Passengers will board the train in Butte with a final destination of the magnificent Washoe Theater in Anaconda. We have partnered with the Vigilante Theater Company to offer two different shows. The train ticket price includes admission to that day's show. These tickets will sell fast, so make plans early if you want to go!
Dinner Trains in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Brewing Company, passengers will enjoy a wonderful dinner on an evening train. Passengers will load in Butte and your orders will be taken enroute to Anaconda. After a brief stop in the museum, we will depart back for Butte with dinners being served for the return trip. We will only offer a limited number of these trains.
The Copper King Express will operate from June to September on Friday and Saturday. Adult: $25, students (ages 6-18): $17, seniors (ages 60 and over): $17. You can purchase tickets by calling 406-563-5458 or visiting our website http://www.copperkingexpress.com.
