Sheridan is situated north of Virginia City and Nevada City in the Ruby Valley, attracted veterans of the Civil War to the area's gold mines. The town was named after General Phillip Sheridan, a distinguished Union cavalry leader.

The Fenton House is a historic homestead located in the beautiful Ruby Valley. The Fenton House homestead has been completely restored and can be rented for a minimum of one week beginning the first of May through mid-October. The home is filled with the original family heirlooms. Many pieces date back to the mid-1800s. There are three bedrooms upstairs with one king sized bed and a single bed in the main bedroom, and one full-sized bed in each of the other two bedrooms. There are two fold-away beds downstairs for extra accommodations.
